Major League Baseball split itself from the controversy facing the NFL at an enormous way through Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night, calling up four officers with a Los Angeles Police Department to sing the national anthem.
Though the NFL has been known for its players protesting or “taking a knee” during “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the police officers got the baseball crowd on its toes with their stirring and linking rendition of the anthem.
There’s only been one MLB player to kneel during the national anthem, Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell. He was detained before this week for allegedly brandishing a gun and aiming it at a female fast-food restaurant employee.
The Houston Astros went on to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 to acquire their first-ever World Series title.
